Helmets are Mandatory
Safety is the most important goal of this event. We insist that all riders adhere to the following information for their safety and the safety of fellow riders.
By state law, bicyclists have all the responsibilities of drivers of vehicles operating on public roads and must obey all traffic regulations, including traffic signals, stops signs, pedestrian and other right-of-way rules, lane indications, and plain common sense. Riders should come to a complete stop with their foot down at all traffic signals and stop signs. Riders should control their speed on descents and remain single file unless conditions safely allow otherwise.
Riders who violate vehicle codes, ride unsafely, are discourteous, rude or dangerous to others will not be allowed to enter future events and may receive legal citations for vehicle code violations.
What to Bring
It is recommended that riders bring the following items:
- Two water bottles,
- A basic kit with at least a spare tube, patches, & tire levers,
- A frame-pump and/or CO2 cartridge system, and
- Warm clothing in layers that can be shed as the day warms up. Volunteers will not SAG clothing or other personal items. Riders must be prepared to carry what they need for the entire ride.
Intersection Control
The start/finish area at the Valencia Town Center is centrally located in Santa Clarita. As such, it sees heavy automobile traffic. The early morning hours of our start should be calm, but traffic for the finish may be heavy. Riders on the 100-, 50- and 25-mile routes will have police escort leaving the Town Center and up to Soledad Canyon Road. Volunteers will be stationed at nearby intersections throughout the day to help. Riders must adhere to the traffic signal before crossing Soledad Canyon Road. There will be volunteers on the Family Ride, at water stations, and located along the course.
